Fitness programs at Duffy Fitness are the most
scientific methods used today to train young
athletes. From a professional point of view most
young athletes are ill prepared to play their sport.
Most young athletes are over trained, over stressed,
dehydrated, mal-nutritioned and sleep deprived.
Young athletes are pushed to lift too much weight,
are not trained to lift properly, are not given
enough rest time in between workouts for their
bodies to repair properly and are forced to do
exercises and drills that actually decrease their
speed, agility and jumping ability.
Most coaches train their athletes
aerobically for anaerobic sports because that is all
they know how to do. Aerobic training actually has
no positive carry over for an anaerobic sport, and
there are very few sports where athletes can benefit
from this kind of training. At the same time,
coaches and trainers are completely ignoring
important muscle groups that are tremendously
beneficial for balance and stability that help
decrease injuries. Last year in soccer alone, there
were 40,000 ACL knee surgeries on minors due to
injuries on the field. Many of these injuries could
have been prevented with a proper physical
assessment of the athlete and a good program design.
That is why, at Duffy Fitness as with
all our clients, the young athlete goes through an
important evaluation to determine all imbalances
that need to be corrected. Children today face
greater physical stresses on their growing bodies,
lack of physical education in schools, decrease in
active play, incredibly poor diets, lack of sleep,
increased time spent in front of computer games and
television. These stresses cause tremendous
imbalances in the body that we can begin to correct
with the proper program designed for the individual.
A program designed from the assessment will teach
proper corrective exercises and stretches that will
reduce chances of injury and increase their
performance on the playing field and more
importantly in life.
Contrary to popular belief, children as young as 5
can benefit from a controlled and guided strength
training and stretching exercise program. Their
posture, confidence, mental agility and ability to
focus will all improve. Duffy Fitness also offers
